Meet Marnie. We have loved having her a part of our markets for just under a year now and how much she supports local small business! Her jewellery has meaning behind every piece and is something to be admired.

When did you start your business and how did you come up with the idea?

The Whimsical Blossom started way back in 2010. It has had many stories in its lifetime, with interruptions and breaks due to life happening. It really came back to life in August 2019. I had been making Morse Code bracelets to wear for myself – I needed a reminder to ‘let it go’ and ‘fck perfect’ with 2 young babies! I started selling at markets again and I’m loving being able to create again!

What does your daily life look like and where do you find the time to create?

I have 2 businesses and have just started a third, so life is very busy! I work during the day while the kids are at daycare – take photos and work on the admin side of things. At night after the kids have gone to bed, I work on new bracelets and any orders that have come through.

What keeps you going when things are tough or you have a lack of motivation?

When things are tough I go back to creating – I love using my hands and making, so when things are difficult making my Morse Code reminders really help. I use whatever I am going through as inspiration for the words I put into the bracelets. When I lack motivation I tend to take a break – I grab a coffee and read a book for a while and I come back feeling more relaxed about everything and it all starts flowing again. I do this because I love it – my box of supplies is my happy place! I want to be able to be there when my kids need me and to have time with them while they are growing up.

What is the main thing you have learnt while running a small business or passion project?

I’ve learned so many things since starting my businesses, but the major things are to go for opportunities when they come along and to get out and meet people. I love being at home creating, but it does get lonely, so making those connections is so important.

What does each sale mean to you?

Everything! It makes me so excited when I see I have made a sale and it means so much that someone loves what I do enough to buy from me.
